Dave Grohl and Greg Kurstin produce 8 songs by 8 famous Jewish artists releasing one song each night to celebrate Hanukkah

Dave Grohl, the driving force of the Foo Fighters and former Nirvana drummer is releasing 8 songs by 8 famous Jewish artists along with producer, songwriter, musician, Greg Kurstin releasing one song each night to celebrate Hanukkah.

It all go started Thursday night and with their take of the “Sabotage” by the Beastie Boys. This raucous screeching performance was followed by Friday’s mellow take of Drake’s “Hotline Bling.”

The 51-year-old Foos frontman, who is not Jewish, said instead of doing another Christmas song this year, he and Kurstin, who is Jewish, were kibbitzing about how they could make Hanukkah extra special this year. So they decided instead of a Festival of Lights they would provide an online “festival of tasty LICKS!!”

“This year, instead of doing a Christmas song, Greg and I decided to celebrate Hanukkah. By recording eight songs by eight famous Jewish artists and releasing one song each night of Hanukkah,” said Grohl. “We hope you enjoy it.”

Also, look for a new studio album release from Grohl and the Foo Fighters in February. Their tenth record will be called, Medicine at Midnight, and the album features the single “Shame Shame,” released in November.

Grohl recently likened the new album to David Bowie’s Let’s Dance record. “It’s got groove, man,” he said in a recent interview with radio station, Alt 98.7.

Kurstin you may recall, co-wrote, produced and played most of the instruments on the record-breaking 2015 Adele single “Hello“. He has worked with numerous famous artists including: Beck, Paul McCartney, Pink, Lily Allen, Sia the Foos and more.

Grohl has been rather active on social media during the pandemic, most recently conceding defeat in a drumming battle to 10-year-old British music sensation, Nandi Bushell.

Bushell has gone viral with some of her drumming and most recently, she took to the bass to tackle Muse’s Chris Wolstenholme’s challenging “Hysteria” bassline. Check out her Instagram account and prepare to be wowed.
