Hazel McCallion to Lie in State at Mississauga City Hall

TORONTO, February 9, 2023 — Beginning this Sunday, the late Hazel McCallion will lie in state at Mississauga City Hall for two days before her state funeral. Over those two days, the public is invited to pay their respects and offer their condolences. The public will be able to visit between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. on Sunday, February 12 and Monday, February 13.

Additionally, members of the public can sign an online condolence book or a printed condolence book available in the Legislative Building at Queen’s Park.

A limited number of tickets to the state funeral held at the Paramount Fine Foods Centre (5500 Rose Cherry Place, Mississauga) will be made available to the public on Thursday, February 9, beginning at 12 p.m. Tickets are required to attend. For more information, visit Mississauga.ca/Hazel. The memorial may also be viewed from the Living Arts Centre (4141 Living Arts Drive, Mississauga.)

In lieu of flowers, the McCallion family has asked that donations be made to Trillium Health Partners Foundation or to the Hazel McCallion Charitable Foundation for Arts, Culture and Heritage.

McCallion, who was Mississauga’s longest-serving Mayor, passed away on Sunday, January 29 at the age of 101. McCallion served as Mayor for 36 years from 1978 to 2014.

Funeral Ticketing Information

State funeral (ticket holders only)

A state funeral will be held at Paramount Fine Foods Centre on Tuesday, February 14 at 11 a.m.

Mrs. McCallion’s family, alongside Her Honour the Honourable Elizabeth Dowdeswell, Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, The Honourable Doug Ford, Premier of Ontario, Michelle DiEmanuele, Secretary of the Cabinet and Clerk of the Executive Council for the Government of Ontario and Bonnie Crombie, Mayor of Mississauga, will be in attendance to pay their respects.

A limited number of tickets will be made available to the public on Thursday, February 9 beginning at 12:00 p.m. More information will follow on how public can access tickets, free of charge. You must have a ticket to enter the building. For more information, visit Mississauga.ca/Hazel

Books of Condolence
Books of Condolences remain available for public signing at City Hall and throughout Mississauga. The Books will be in place until the evening of the funeral. Residents and guests are encouraged to share their respects and express their sympathies to the McCallion family through the Books of Condolences. An online Book of Condolence is available through Turner and Porter.

The flags at Mississauga City Hall and all City facilities have been lowered and will remain at half-mast until Tuesday, February 14 following the funeral.
