Mops happen to be a great cleaning tool for all kinds of living spaces. A mop wipes off the dust, dirt, and debris from the floor, keeping it clean, shiny, and germ-free for a long time.

The market is brimming with different types of mops that serve different purposes. If you cannot stand the sight of dirt, food crumbs, and debris lying on the floor, invest in one of these cleaning tools.

Here are the different types of mops and their uses:

Flat Mop:

A flat mop is a popular type of mop used in a majority of households. It includes a flat head that can be disposed of when worn out. This mop serves as the best solution for everyday cleaning. It is best for wiping off the dirt and dust accumulated on the floor.

A flat mop can clean difficult corners, as well as scrub off all the stuck-on food spillage without any pre-treatment.

Spray Mop:

A spray mop is the newest addition to the category of mops. It comes with a long handle and a spray bottle attached to it. The long handle allows you to clean the floor while maintaining an upright stance. Also, the built-in spray mechanism of this mop eliminates the need to carry a mop bucket around the house.

You can remove the spray bottle, refill it, and then use it for wet cleaning. You can also fill the bottle with disinfectants and other cleaning solutions.

Dust Mop:

As the name suggests, a dust mop is used to clean the dust off the floor. Apart from the floor, you can use it to clean ceilings, walls, lights, shelves and other areas of your home. This mop is particularly used to clean solid dust particles. You can also remove cobwebs using this cleaning tool.

A dust mop is made using a variety of materials such as microfiber, lambswool, and synthetics. You can choose the best material as per your preference.

Sponge Mop:

A sponge mop includes a spongy head attached to a wringer. The removable head allows you to replace it with a new one when the old one wears out. A sponge mop is best used to clean tiles and other uneven surfaces.

The only drawback of using this mop is that you need to maintain it properly. It is because a sponge mop is prone to bacteria and fungi build-up. Always clean this mop with warm water and dry it under the sun after use. When the mop starts smelling bad, replace it with a newer one.

Steam Mop:

A steam mop is an electrical appliance that comes with a refillable tank for water. As the name suggests, this mop utilizes pressurized squirts of steam to clean the floor. It is most commonly used in all commercial spaces such as hotels and hospices for deep cleaning and disinfecting the floor.

A steam mop is a little pricier as compared to others on the list. However, it is worth the extra cost.
