Cookbook Nook: ‘Jenna Rae Cakes At Home’ by Ashley Kosowan and Jenna Hutchinson 

Twin sisters Ashley Kosowan and Jenna Hutchinson have done it again! After their first cookbook (Jenna Rae Cakes and Sweet Treats) became an immediate bestseller, the duo has released a second book called Jenna Rae Cakes At Home: Our Favourite Recipes to Enjoy with Family and Friends.

While their first book featured recipes found at their Jenna Rae Cakes bakeshop in Winnipeg, Manitoba, this latest book is inspired by their time spent baking at home and features their favourite recipes created with their added signature twist.  

Not only are the twins (and best friends) gorgeous looking, so are their recipes and the photos in Jenna Rae Cakes At Home. At first glance, you may think the book only contains recipes for cake, but there is so much more to discover. Chapters include Pancakes, Waffles and French Toast; Muffins, Biscuits and Scones; Party Snacks; Breads; Cakes and Squares; Cookies, Pastry, Pies, and Tarts and Staple Recipes for icing, ganache and more. 

Step by Step Approach

What I like most about this book (aside from the mouthwatering photos by Ashley Kosowan), is the step-by-step approach that makes even the most elaborate-looking cakes seem doable. Some recipes (such as the Birthday Cake Eclairs) contain several steps and perhaps are geared to the seasoned home baker, but most of the recipes are easy to follow.

In every case, the bakeshop owners inspire us to ramp it up a notch to create treats that look like works of art.  A few must-try recipes include Deep Dish Upside Down Salted Caramel Apple Pancake, Coffee Cake Swirl Muffins and Birthday Cake Rolls.  

You will also discover family favourites like Blueberry Biscuit Cobbler, Granny’s Walnut Buns and Scones. It’s clear that these bakers love creating colourful treats as you will discover in recipes like Confetti Snack Cake, Cotton Candy Macarons and Blue Razz Pastry Pockets.  

With 220k followers on @jennaraecakes, the sisters have a huge fan base who are no doubt have anxiously awaited the release of this new book.
