NBA Standings: Where do the Toronto Raptors stand in terms of the playoffs?

With the NBA playoffs kicking off on April 20, 2024, there is much speculation as to whether the Toronto Raptors will be able to regain their strength or follow through with their current lacklustre gameplay. With multiple matches lost throughout the season, it does, however seem like the Toronto Raptors have lost their competitive edge and gained a lack of ‘real’ talent to save their seat for the playoffs.

The Real Chances of the Toronto Raptors to Enter the Post-Season

Although the Toronto Raptors have made it to the playoffs 12 times since their formation in 1995, it does not seem too likely for the scenario to repeat in 2024.

With talented players such as Scottie Barnes, Barrett and Quickley being capable of scoring big points in any game, there are however concerns regarding recent lost games where the odds were not against them. The Toronto Raptors schedule before the playoffs does include some possible matches where the new players may play a significant role in regaining the team’s strength, however, a significant turn of events for a winning streak does not seem likely.

Toronto Raptors Future Prospects

Before the NBA Trade Deadline, fans saw The Toronto Raptors trading players Kira Lewis, Otto Porter Jr, and a 2024 first-round pick for Utah Jazz players Kelly Onynyk (Centre/Forward) and Ochai Agbaji (Shooting Guard).

Toronto Raptors Future Prospects

With the February trades, there has been much discussion among fans about whether the changes will bring the team back to its former glory. Although the trade prospects may be seen as a two-way streak, there are already some visible positive changes in the team’s overall strength; will these changes bring the Toronto Raptors closer to the postseason? Probably not, yet the February trade has proven a swift change in the team’s overall stats.

  • The addition of Ochai Agbaji as a shooting guard has proven to be a positive change to the Toronto Raptors roster as he has proven the ability to get to the free-throw line often and is averaging around 6 points per game.
  • With Kelly Onynyk’s strong defence and shooting ability he fits in with the skills of fellow teammate Scott Barnes (Small Forward) for a strong defence to cover the floor. With an impressive 11.4 average points per game, Kelly is showcasing great prospects for the team’s future. Furthermore, his ability to stretch the floor has been a game-changer for the team by being able to draw opposing players out to the permitter with guards which could have helped with the Cleveland Cavaliers vs Toronto Raptors match player stats on their January 1st match.

With the current NBA Standings of The Toronto Raptors ranking at no.12 before the Hornets and Pistons, there is no immediate indication that the team will be able to avoid their demise through the playoffs.

Final thoughts: Current Draft’s Role in Toronto Raptors Future

The Toronto Raptors’ current draft capital is focused on gaining more players who can compete with the strength of Scott Barnes (small forward /shooting guard). As part of the previous trade of Pascal Siakam in January, the Raptors acquired the first-round pick from the Pacers. As a top 3 protected pick, it is however speculated that Indiana will be qualifying for the postseason which may in turn be thrown to Toronto.
