Ontario Commemorates International Holocaust Remembrance Day
TORONTO, January 27, 2024 – Today, Michael Ford, Minister of Citizenship and Multiculturalism, issued the following statement on International Holocaust Remembrance Day and the 79th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau:
“Today, we remember and pay tribute to the memory of the six million Jews who were brutally murdered and the millions more who were persecuted during the Holocaust.
We stand shoulder-to-shoulder with all Jewish people to never forget these atrocities and to honour the strength and resilience of the survivors and their families.
As one of the darkest chapters in history, the Holocaust is a painful reminder of the dangers of antisemitism, discrimination and intolerance – dangers which continue to be a problem in our society today.
As Ontarians, we have a responsibility to be vigilant and stand up against hate whenever and wherever it occurs. There can be no place in Ontario for antisemitism and hate in all its forms.
Every person in our province has the right to worship, practice their faith, observe their cultures, express their identities and live their lives with dignity, free of racism, hate and violence.
By working together, we can continue building a stronger, safer and more inclusive Ontario. A place where our diversity is celebrated and ‘never again’ is more than just words, but is reality.”
