Rainfall warning issued for Toronto, southern Ontario
TORONTO, Sept. 24, 2024 – Environment and Climate Change Canada has issued a widespread Rainfall Warning for City of Toronto and southern Ontario. ECCC says widespread heavy rain is expected tonight into Wednesday delivering rainfall amounts of 30 to 50 mm. along with a risk of thunderstorms.
As you can see below, most areas right across southern Ontario are expected to see as much as 50 mm of rain tonight into tomorrow morning.
Rainfall warning in effect for the following regions in Ontario:
Woodstock – Tillsonburg – Oxford County; Brantford – County of Brant; City of Toronto; Uxbridge – Beaverton – Northern Durham Region; Newmarket – Georgina – Northern York Region; Pickering – Oshawa – Southern Durham Region; Vaughan – Richmond Hill – Markham; Cobourg – Colborne – Western Northumberland County; Listowel – Milverton – Northern Perth County; Stratford – Mitchell – Southern Perth County; Mount Forest – Arthur – Northern Wellington County; Guelph – Erin – Southern Wellington County; Kitchener – Cambridge – Region of Waterloo; Innisfil – New Tecumseth – Angus; Shelburne – Mansfield – Northern Dufferin County; Orangeville – Grand Valley – Southern Dufferin County; Caledon; Mississauga – Brampton; Halton Hills – Milton
Timing for the heavy rainfall:
The rain, at times heavy is beginning this evening of September 24, 2024 and tapering off by Wednesday morning or afternoon.
The widespread showers along with a risk of thunderstorms, are expected to move into the region this evening as a moisture laden system moves into the Great Lakes Basin.
According to ECCC, some areas of southern Ontario may potentially receive in excess of 50 mm but there still remains a high degree of uncertainty.
