Andrew Cividino also shared the award with Daniel for Best director in a comedy series.

Filmed in Ontario, the hugely popular 6-season Canadian sitcom first aired on CBC in January 2015, with its final episode airing on April 7, 2020. The first five seasons of the popular binge-worth comedy show series are also on Netflix with the final season expected to air in October according to several sources.

The series follows the trials and tribulations of the formerly wealthy Rose family when they are forced to relocate to a motel in Schitt’s Creek, a small town they once purchased as a joke. The show just keeps getting better with each and every episode as viewers can’t help but fall in love with the antics and mannerisms of the strong lead characters.

The cast had gathered for a private party physically distanced and wearing masks at Casa Loma to watch the show and accept their numerous awards. “Our show at its core is about the transformational effects of love and acceptance and that is something that we need more of now than we’ve ever needed before,” Daniel Levy said while accepting the award for best comedy series.

On social media and at today’s press conference, Toronto Mayor John Tory congratulated the entire crew from the show saying that the new Toronto sign will be lit up gold in their honour.

“The Toronto Sign will be lit up in gold tonight to celebrate Schitt’s Creek and the show’s sweep at the Emmys! Congratulations again to the cast and crew for showing the strength of our local screen industry!” said Tory.

The hilarious Canadian comedy series, for best comedy was up against some stiff competition. NBC’s The Good Place, FX’s What We Do in the Shadows, Amazon Prime Video’s The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, HBO’s shows: Curb Your Enthusiasm and Insecure, along with two Netflix shows: Dead To Me and The Kominsky Method were all in the running.
