Special Weather Statement issued for GTA
ECCC warns of heavy rainfall headed our way
TORONTO, January 25, 2024 – Good evening. As those of us living around the great lake Ontario watch the snow vanish as fast as it arrived, a special weather statement has been issued by Environment & Climate Change Canada (ECCC) for the GTA warning of heavy rainfall tonight and into Friday morning.
ECCC says we can expect “Locally heavy rainfall possibly tonight into Friday morning.”
They are saying the amount of rain headed our way tonight is 15 to 25 mm of rain, with locally higher amounts possible. Rain is expected to move into southern Ontario tonight and taper off Friday. The rain may fall heavily at times.
Possible Flooding
Localized flooding may occur in areas of poor drainage and because the frozen ground will have a reduced ability to absorb this rainfall. Ponding of water can also be expected in poorly drained areas.
