Special weather statement issued for southern Ontario: Toronto is under its first heat advisory of the season

TORONTO, May 30, 2022 – In case you haven’t ventured outside, a Special Weather Statement has been issued for southern Ontario, with the first heat event of the season delivering temperatures close to 30 celsius over the next two days. Environment Canada warns of “hot and increasingly humid weather” today into Tuesday.

Temperatures will approach 30 today in many areas. Temperatures tonight are forecast to briefly dip into the upper teens.

However, maximum temperatures on Tuesday will be in the low thirties, and with forecast minimum temperatures in the low twenties in many areas, little relief from the heat is expected on Tuesday night.

But the sweltering days ending off May will be short lived, giving way to cooler air expected to arrive on Wednesday.

Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) warns that these hot conditions pose a health risk when you are not used to the heat.

Everyone is at risk from heat, especially older adults; infants and young children; and people with chronic illnesses.

You are advised to 1) drink plenty of cool liquids before feeling thirsty; and 2) keep cool by dressing for the weather and spending more time in a cool place.

Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to ONstorm@ec.gc.ca or tweet reports using #ONStorm.
