If you needed another reason to stay isolated, mother nature is providing it today in the form of a Special Weather Statement from Environment Canada, one of Canada’s top trusted weather sources.

GTA residents should make sure that your property items outside of your home are secured as strong winds gust from 70 to 80 km/h are expected today, according to Environment Canada.

The winds bring with them Cold Arctic air in the wake of a sharp arctic cold front that blasted across the region last night.

Meanwhile, there will also be some rare lake effect snow flurries around the GTA with accumulations of up to 5 cm in the traditional snow belt areas south and east of Lake Huron and in the Georgian Bay area according to The Weather Network, located in Oakville. Driving routes like Highway 26, Highway 10 and Highway 124 north of Caledon could see some snow according to The Weather Network.

Temperatures will hover around 4 degrees in the GTA -2 celsius with the windchill.

Fairer skies return Wednesday and Thursday south of the 401, but temperatures will remain chilly, especially near the west end of Lake Ontario.

“Daytime highs for parts of southern Ontario will struggle to break the freezing mark. Northern Ontario will see sub-freezing daytime highs,” Weather Network meteorologist Kelly Sonnenburg says.

Environment Canada also warns that winds headed our way are strong enough to cause Isolated power outages.

Expect the winds throughout the day but to diminish this evening.
