TORONTO, April 29, 2022 — Superfresh will officially be opening its doors to the public on May 14 in time for Asian Heritage Month. Located at 384 Bloor Street West (former Annex Food Hall), Superfresh will showcase Asian-led and owned businesses across the city combining food, drinks, live entertainment, a bodega and other planned secret events under one roof—making it the ultimate experience, no matter what time of day you decide to stop by.

Seven vendors encircle an open dining room complete with a full bar and bodega which seats 150 guests indoor and 50 guests on an outdoor patio. In step with its menu, which acts as an inclusive celebration of Asian culture, the venue is filled with whimsical details emulating the busy night markets of Asia where people spend all hours of the day and night eating and enjoying each other’s company. The 4,000-square-foot space is an immersive experience from the moment one enters the space which is filled with an abundance of quirky signage and neon lights paying tribute to the origins of night markets across various East Asian countries. The bar top is made out of Mahjong tiles and a wall comes alive with moving fortune cats.

“We are excited to bring this concept to life and add to the cultural fabric of the Asian community in Toronto,” says co-owner, Trevor Lui. “Our intention is to support and uplift the many talented Asian creatives in the city and provide a hub to showcase their work.”

The Superfresh name pays homage to the first 24hr Korean-owned grocery store once located in the heart of the Annex.

Superfresh brings together vendors and brands highlighting different geographical regions of Asia, from Northern China and Indonesia to Taiwan and Korea. The full vendor line-up is listed below:

●  Auntie’s Supply – Asian Bodega, snacks, condiments

●  GoodGoods – Mochins (Mochi Muffins), Tea-Misu, Basque Cheesecake

●  Baobird – Taiwanese Fried Chicken, Baos and Sides

●  Katsupan – Japanese Sandos, Shokupan (Milk Bread)

●  JaJan – Indonesian Street Eats, Rendang, Goreng, Skewers

●  Big Beef Bowl – Lanzhou Hand Pulled Noodles, Cold Dishes, Dumplings

●  Ssam Cha – Korean Bar Anju (classic Korean bar snacks)

The ‘Superfresh’ cocktail menu created by beverage expert, Evelyn Chick, is inspired by unique flavours drawn from various Asian cuisines, and combines known cocktail classics with newly re-invented serves. The front bar boasts 4 crushable cocktails on tap that pair perfectly with the Superfresh food offerings, while the Speakeasy menu takes on more adventurous ingredients. From the ’Superfresh Spritz’ made with a Lemongrass infused Northern Keep Vodka, a house Pomelo Ginseng Cordial topped with sparkling wine on tap… to the ‘Punch Punch Peach’ cocktail with Brugal 1888 Premium Rum, Chum Charm Peach Soju, Fresh Lime Juice and a Tahini Cashew Orgeat available in the speakeasy, there truly is something for everyone to explore. There will also be a carefully curated beer, sake, soju and Baijiu list featuring Asian owned or local purveyors.

Superfresh will also be home to an array of community programming including artisan markets, live DJ’s, pop-ups, fashion events and more. One thing is for sure, heritage and community will always be at the forefront.

Both community and purpose driven, Superfresh took it an extra step beyond food and entertainment by bringing together Asian women across the city for support services in public relations (Elaine Quan, EQPR), bar & beverage design (Evelyn Chick), creative direction (Stephanie Lui Valentim, Quell), web and brand design (Bianca Chamberlain, TRV Studio Creative) and light design (Nicole Cheng, Karen Lam, FuseNeon) .

Superfresh will open six days a week, 12:00pm to late (closed Tuesdays).
