Toronto, June 6, 2023 – Toronto-based indie rock outfit Housewife unveil their new single ‘King Of Wands’, out today via Hazel Street Records/The Orchard. The spirited and dynamic new track follows the previously released hit ‘Fuck Around Phase’, and continues the evolution of Housewife’s sonic journey to a more mature and intentionally genre-blending sound. Co-penned by Housewife (the professional moniker for 20-year-old Brighid Fry), frequent producer Gabe Simon (Lana Del Rey, Noah Kahan), and JT Foley (GAYLE, Maddy Hicks), ‘King Of Wands’ incisively melds a lush mix of distorted guitar riffs, pop-centric melodies, and arena-ready rock instrumentation.

“‘King of Wands’ is a song about the Patriarchal attempts to diminish women’s confidence in their own intuition,” shares Fry. “Women’s intuition, spirituality, and solidarity are things that keep us safe and thriving – I wanted to write a song about reclaiming that.”

Earlier this spring Housewife joined Paolo Nutini on his North American tour, wowing crowds in Toronto, Montreal, Brooklyn, Los Angeles, and more. Housewife is gearing up to hit the stage at major festivals across the country including North By Northeast, Canadian Music Week, Sled Island, Sommo Festival, Riverfest Elora and more, and was recently nominated for a 2023 Canadian Live Music Industry Award for ‘New Touring Artist of the Year’.

In 2022, Housewife signed to Hazel Street Records and released the five track EP You’ll Be Forgiven,  lauded by CBC q’s Tom Power as “thoughtful and introspective [with] lyrics about coming of ages, growing up, and making mistakes.” Already touting notable accolades for previous releases including a Toronto Independent Music Award, the Canadian Songwriting Competition in the under-18 category, a Canadian Folk Music Award and the Slaight Music It’s Your Shot Award, You’ll Be Forgiven took Housewife to new heights, receiving high-praise from FLOOD, FLAUNT, Exclaim!, BrooklynVegan.

Housewife’s music regularly touches on the experience of being a young, queer, AFAB person existing in a male-dominated and patriarchal industry. In addition to exploring these themes in their music, Fry is also an advocate for 2SLGBTQ+ rights, reproductive freedom, and environmentalism, proudly fighting for immediate government response to protect ecological catastrophes as a founding member of the Canadian chapter of Music Declares Emergency
