TORONTO, July 11, 2022 – After extending a looming strike deadline for VIA Rail workers, set for July 11 at 12:01 a.m. to July 11 at 4 pm, then 8:00 pm Canada’s national passenger rail service has released a statement to say the deadline is not July 12 at 12:01 am.

“Please be advised that the union representing some 2,400 VIA Rail employees issued a strike notice to take effect on July 12, 2022, at 12:01 a.m. (ET) should no agreement be reached,” the statement reads.

If the union launches strike action, VIA Rail will be forced to suspend all services across the country for the safety of its passengers.

VIA Rail says they are “working as hard as possible to reach an agreement before the strike deadline imposed on us by the union. If the train is cancelled, your ticket will be refunded as soon as possible after the scheduled departure.”

VIA Rail will keep passengers informed of any potential disruption in service.

For more information, passengers are asked to call 1 888 VIA-RAIL (1 888 842-7245), or our TTY service (for persons who are deaf or hard of hearing) 1 800 268-9503.

We thank you for your understanding and sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this situation may cause.
