Winter Weather Travel Advisory issued for Toronto area

TORONTO, March 9, 2023 – March has certainly been coming in like a lion in southern Ontario, and that trend continues as Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) has issued a Winter Weather Travel Advisory for Friday, starting around noon and continuing into the evening.

Just one week after the city’s biggest storm hit, delivering a half foot or more of snow along with occasional “thundersnow” and causing the cancellation/closure of numerous events/venues, tomorrow’s snowfall accumulations are expected to be much lower, with 4 to 8 cm expected, according to ECCC. However, residents and travellers are warned to expect lower visibility at certain unspecified times.

Timing for Friday’s snowfall in the GTA:

Beginning near noon and tapering off late Friday evening.

ECCC says the widespread snow is expected to push across southwestern Ontario and the Golden Horseshoe on Friday and that the evening commute will be affected by this snowfall.

Motorists should expect hazardous winter driving conditions and adjust travel plans accordingly. Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions. If visibility is reduced while driving, turn on your lights and maintain a safe following distance.

Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to ONstorm@ec.gc.ca or tweet reports using #ONStorm.
