With the FIFA 2026 Men’s World Cup well underway, we thought we would provide some snacking ideas to serve at watch parties for some of your favourite teams from around the world. Here are the easy to follow recipes along instructions preparation videos from GTA Chef Stephan Schulz of how to prepare them
SWITZERLAND (SWISS) APPETIZER BOARD
INGREDIENTS:
• Rye bread
• Butter
• Swiss Gruyère Cheese
• Swiss Emmentaler Cheese
• Swiss Goat cheese
• Grapes
• Swiss Chocolate
TO ASSEMBLE:
Consider the number of people to feed and adjust the amount of items on your appetizer board accordingly
• I like using the wooden board and pre-cut some of the cheeses
• Fresh sliced rye bread and butter each slice
• Cut in Gruyère cheese into small bite-sized pieces
• 1 to 2 grapevines (green or red grapes)
• Sliced and rolled up the Emmentaler cheese
• Break the Swiss chocolate into smaller pieces
• Small roll of goat cheese
Appetizer board is ready for game time!
CANADIAN POUTINE
INGREDIENTS
• French fries
• Cheese curds
• Gravy (Store bought mix)
• 2 tablespoons-ketchup
TO MAKE:
• Use an air fryer for best results
• Place French Fries in Airfryer and cook until crispy (approximately 12 minutes at 200ºC or 400ºF)
• Use one package of gravy-follow manufacturer’s package instruction
• Once fries are crispy, place them onto your plate
• Drizzle your gravy over the French fries
• Place a handful of the cheese curds over the gravy and they are ready to serve.
CHEF TIP:
• For a boost in flavour, add 2 tablespoons of ketchup to the gravy and mix thoroughly
Now you have munchies and are ready to enjoy the game!
GERMAN EVENING BREAD BOARD
INGREDIENTS:
• German rye bread
• Hot dog bun(s)
• Butter enough to cover all breads
• German wieners (pork)
• Homemade German meat salad (Meatloaf)
• Black Forest ham
• Sliced beerwurst
• Dijon mustard
TO MAKE:
• Adjust the amount of sausage wieners and meat salad that you make with the slices of bread needed.
• Take two thick slices of meatloaf (Sliced into thin strips)
• Place in a bowl and add a touch of mayonnaise (to your liking)
• Add one small dill pickle (chopped fine) and a tablespoon of pickle juice.
• Mixed together
• Add butter to your bun(s)
• Place your rye bread on serving board
• Place the German Wieners (can be served hot or cold) next to the bread slices
(to cook wieners only simmer them for a few minutes)
• Add your meat salad into a bun and place it on the board
• Arrange your sliced meat on the board finishing the arrangement with the
Black Forest ham
• Add a touch of Dijon mustard
Now you are ready for a world class snack to watch your team play!
ENGLAND BANGERS AND MASH
INGREDIENTS:
• 1 package of Bangers (sausages)
• Four medium potatoes
• One package of gravy (follow manufacturers recommendation)
• One medium sweet onion (sliced)
• 1 Tablespoon of sour cream
• 1 tablespoon of mayonnaise
• 2 tablespoons of butter
• 1 to 2 ounces of milk.
• 1Tablespoon of brown sugar (to be used when sauteing the onions)
TO MAKE:
• Çook Bangers in water for 5 to 6 minutes, then remove and put aside
• Peel, dice and cook potatoes until tender (cook potatoes and vegetable broth or chicken broth)
• While potatoes are cooking, sauté your onions on medium heat and add a touch of water and a tablespoon of brown sugar
• Once potatoes are cooked, remove 95% of all the water, then mash while adding milk, butter, mayonnaise and sour cream. (You may wish to add a touch of salt or extra milk to make it the mash fluffier)
To Prepare your Bangers:
In a frying pan, on medium heat fry your bangers until each side is a golden brown.
To prepare your gravy:
Very simple-Follow to package instructions
TO SERVE:
• Add your potatoes onto the plate
• Add your bangers on top of the potatoes
• Add your sautéed onions on top of the Bangers
• Drizzle with the gravy over top of the bangers and onions
This is a meal (not just a snack) to satisfy any England fan watching their favourite team play a world-cup match!
A USA STEAK TREAT
INGREDIENTS:
• One New York Strip steak
• 3 to 4 strands of green asparagus
• 3 to 5 white mushrooms
• 2 to 3 spoons of chimichurri sauce (parsley, garlic, oil, vinegar, oregano, red pepper flakes)
• 2 spoons of olive oil
• 2 Tablespoons of butter
MAKING THE CHIMICHURRI SAUCE:
• Finely chopped fresh parsley, garlic, olive oil, vinegar, oregano, and red pepper flakes that are blended together. It is tangy with a garlicky flavor, Ideal for grilled/fried meats like steak.
TO MAKE:
• Remove the sirloin steak from the refrigeration one hour before frying/grilling it.
• Dry steak off with paper towels, then salt and pepper both sides to taste and let it rest.
• Clean the stems of the green asparagus and set aside
• Clean mushrooms and cut them into half or quarters depending on size and set aside.
• Add your steak to medium hot barbeque or grill each side or fry between 4 to 5 minutes depending on how sick your steak is.
• Once done, remove steak from grill or frying pan and let it rest for 5 to 6 minutes
• Take a frying pan and add a little bit of olive oil and butter
• Add your asparagus to the pan and then your mushrooms, let simmer for 5 to 6 minutes
• Take the steak and cut it into strips and place them on serving plate. Add your green asparagus and mushrooms.
• Add chimichurri on top of steak
