Commuters asked to make other arrangements

TORONTO, Oct. 3, 2023 – GO Transit has just announced that there is a CN network-wide system failure that is affecting all of its rail corridors. Trains will continue to hold at the nearest stations.

VIA Rail trains and UP Express have also grinded to a halt (Tuesday Oct. 3 – 3:00 pm). But it sounds like UP Express may be working again now (3:25 pm).

In a statement, CN who operates the rail lines said the outage is due to a “internet connectivity and electronic data interchange issue.” They also say that there is no indication of a cyber security issue.

“GO trains, VIA trains in and out of Union station, as well as CN’s customer service portal, all of which require an internet connection to CN’s servers, are currently impacted,” CN said in a statement. “CN apologizes for the issue. We are working to get all services up and running safely and efficiently.”

“Our teams are working with CN to resolve the issue quickly and safely. We will provide an update when more information becomes available.,” reads the statement.

GO is recommending that all commuters make alternate arrangements for getting home or to events they are headed for.

“At this time, we are recommending to our customers to consider taking alternative travel options. Use Triplinx for travel alternatives. Click on “Options” at the top and under the section “Transit Options”, be sure to deselect “Train” as an option. From there, click “Start/End” to start planning your trip. “

No Lakeshore West Go Train service

Amtrak?

CN says EXO trains (Montreal) and Amtrak Trains are still operating but GO trains in and out of Union as well as CN’s customer service portal are impacted due to internet connection issues, and there has been no indication of a cyber security issue.
