Ambassador Bridge closed and evacuated due to ‘possible explosive device’

The Ambassador Bridge between Windsor and Detroit has been closed by Canadian Border Services due to the threat of possible explosives located inside a vehicle in the secondary inspection area, according to Windsor Police. The investigation is still ongoing.

The traffic is being rerouted to adjacent Ports of Entry of Windsor Detroit Tunnel and Blue Water Bridge. Windsor Police say the area has been evacuated and the bridge is shut down for incoming US to traffic only. Explosive Disposal Unit is attending.

Windor Police took to twitter to say that no threat was associated to this and it is believed to be an isolated incident.

Initially the international bridge was only closed to incoming US vehicles but now it is closed to travellers from both sides.

Windsor Police say that Canadian Borders Services alerting them “after possible explosives were located inside a vehicle in the secondary inspection area.”
