Canada’s first blood clot-related death linked to AstraZeneca vaccine reported in Quebec

Quebec health officials have announced, sadly that a woman in her 50s has died after receiving the AstraZeneca Oxford vaccine that was administered in early April.

Quebec public health director Dr. Horacio Arruda said, “It’s important to weigh the risk of the vaccination against the much higher risk of serious complications with COVID-19.

“It’s clear that the virus kills. But sometimes unfortunately there are complications,” added Dr. Arruda. “It’s very rare. We knew there was a possibility that this could happen.”

There has been 400,000 Canadians that have received the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine and to date one death. Canadian Health Minister Christian Dubé said, “That is 400,000 Canadians that have less chance of getting COVID-19.”

Blood clotting can also occur as a side effect to birth control, from long trips, after an injury or post-surgery and due to smoking.

A team of doctors at McMaster University, studying blood clots related to the COVID-19 vaccines detected the antibodies that caused the platelet problem which led to the women’s death, according to several news reports.

There was an age limit of 45 years old to 70 years of age. ” Canadian Health Minister Christian Dubé added, “It is unfortunately a risk we have to take.”

At this point there are three other blood clot cases in Canada under investigation to determine if they are directly linked to the AstraZeneca Oxford vaccine.
