TORONTO, ON., March 12, 2020 – Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau is self-isolating after his wife, Sophie Grégoire Trudeau, is being tested for COVID-19 after exhibiting mild flu-like symptoms after returning from the United Kingdom.

According to a statement from the Prime Minister’s office, she immediately sought medical advice and is being tested for COVID-19. Both are self-isolating at home awaiting test results, although the latest report suggests that Sophie’s condition has improved.

“The doctor’s advice to the Prime Minister is to continue daily activities while self-monitoring, given he is exhibiting no symptoms himself,” the statement says.

“However, out of an abundance of caution, the Prime Minister is opting to self-isolate and work from home until receiving Sophie’s results,” read the statement.

The PM was scheduled to meet with the with provincial and territorial premiers but this will be postponed as a result of the evolving COVID-19 situation across Canada.

The Prime Minister is planning to spend the day in briefings, calls, and virtual meetings from home, including speaking with other world leaders about the novel coronavirus.
