Celebrate Mississauga’s 50th Anniversary at CreativeHub 1352: A Night of Art, History, and Community!

MISSISSAUGA, October 23, 2024 — The City of Mississauga is celebrating its 50th year of inauguration and CreativeHub 1352 is hosting a FREE evening of reflection, celebration, and cultural discovery on November 1, 2024, at Mississauga’s iconic Small Arms Inspection Building. This special event marks Mississauga’s 50th anniversary and promises a vibrant showcase of art, history, and local talent, making it an unforgettable night for everyone!

Premiere of Stories of the Small Arms film

The night begins with the highly anticipated premiere of Stories of the Small Arms, a short film produced by CreativeHub 1352, Patti Janetta Baker, and Gabriella Bank. This moving documentary highlights the history of the Small Arms Ltd. munitions factory, celebrating the workers who played an essential role in supporting Canada’s war efforts during WWII and contributed to building the Lakeview community. Audiences will be taken on a journey through the site’s local and national significance, with personal stories that echo the heart of Mississauga’s heritage.

Visual Art Exhibition: Mississauga Now and Then

Following the screening, guests can enjoy the reception for Mississauga Now and Then, a photography and photo-based art exhibition that reflects the city’s evolving identity. The exhibition features works by local artists who explore how Mississauga has grown and transformed over the decades. From breathtaking photography to imaginative interpretations of place, this exhibition offers a deep dive into Mississauga’s unique sense of community.

Exhibiting Artists: 

Heather Doyle, Michael Feraco, Claudio Ghirardo, Andrea Hunter, Michael Lemiski, Marcelo Pazan, Marlon Porter, Michael Scholz, Amy Schweiger, Veronica Spiljak, Hubert Swietorzecki, Julian Toh, Mina Vancardo, and Stephen Uhraney.

The exhibition will be open to the public from October 23 to November 1, 2024 (with daily hours listed on the event page), culminating with the grand celebration on November 1st. Guests also will be able to see digital photos by Cawthra Park SS Grade 12 Visual Arts RAP class viewable online through CreativeHub’s instagram stories during the exhibition dates and at the Small Arms Inspection Building on the evening of the Reception.

Performances, Live Music, and Storytelling

Attendees will be treated to an exhilarating dance performance by members of the local community, choreographed by Blueheel Dance Studio, as well as live jazz music from Jazz Plazma. Talented storytellers Laura Therrien and Brandon Lista will take the stage, sharing captivating narratives that link Mississauga’s past to its vibrant present.
