One of the refurbished courts pays tribute to Toronto Raptors legend and 2024 Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame Inductee Vince Carter.
Featuring new asphalt, fencing, posts, backboards, improved pathways and seating, this refurbishment has revitalized a popular amenity in one of the City’s beloved parks.
Vince Carter Court and Raptors North Legacy Courts
The project also pays tribute to Toronto Raptors legend and 2024 Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame Inductee Vince Carter, with one of the refurbished courts named after him. Cater’s Embassy of Hope first established this court at Dixon Park in 2003. The other courts are named the “Raptors North Legacy Courts”, celebrating the Raptors’ 30th anniversary.
“A refurbished court is more than just a surface; it’s a renewed opportunity for our community to come together and play. We are thrilled to invest in our community’s recreational infrastructure. Investing in our basketball courts means investing in our youth – this is a place where friendships are built, and skills are developed.,” said Mayor Olivia Chow. “The refurbishment of the Dixon Park basketball courts is a testament to our commitment to providing quality recreational spaces that foster community engagement and active lifestyles,” said Mayor Chow.
The refurbishment and revitalization of three basketball courts and two 3v3 pads at Dixon Park is part of the MLSE Foundation’s ongoing commitment to growing the game of basketball and providing access to sport and opportunities that lead to success both on and off the court.
City is committed to enhancing recreational facilities
This gleaming new look also showcases the City’s commitment to enhancing recreational facilities, fostering community engagement, improving public spaces and reducing financial pressures on municipal assets.
The Toronto Raptors have inspired communities across Toronto since 1995, first with their inauguration as the first Canadian NBA team and again in 2019 with their landmark championship win. Through the team’s many years of contributions to City courts and amenities, they continue to serve as a beacon of inspiration for a new generation, encouraging them to reach new heights through community and the game of basketball.
