Here comes the rain again: Special Weather Statement issued for GTA on hump day

TORONTO, April 1, 2025 – This is not an April Fool’s prank. Things are going to get muddy and possibly floody as Environment and Climate Change Canada has issued another Special Weather Statement for the GTA. This time the heavy rainfall expected on Wednesday morning and continuing throughout the day could yield from 30 to 50 mm.

Now, the City did luckily avoid the ice storm that ventured to north to cottage country on the weekend but it is expected that avoiding all of this rain will not transpire.

Here is what ECCC is saying about the oncoming significant rainfall on Wednesday.

What:

Rain, at times heavy. Total rainfall amounts of 30 to 50 mm. Locally higher amounts are possible in thunderstorms.

When:

Wednesday morning through early Thursday morning.

Additional information:

Rain begins Wednesday morning over extreme southwestern Ontario before reaching the Golden Horseshoe Wednesday afternoon. With thunderstorms expected, rainfall amounts may exceed 50 mm over some areas, particularly over southwestern Ontario.

Rain will end from west to east Wednesday night into early Thursday morning.

Rainfall warnings may be required for some areas as the event draws nearer. Localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible.
