Live Nation just bought an iconic Toronto music venue
TORONTO, ON (July 12, 2023) – Live Nation Canada, the world’s leading live entertainment company, today announced its acquisition of The Opera House, a historical landmark and iconic music venue in Toronto.
Originally opened as a theatre in 1909, the space later became a single-screen cinema before being transformed into The Opera House by the Ellinas family in 1989. The venue has since gone on to host some of the most memorable shows in the city’s history, and an impressive list of talent including: Metallica, Nirvana, Eminem, A$AP Rocky, MIA, Foo Fighters, Rage Against the Machine, Halsey, Ghostface, Tenille Townes, Weezer, Gary Numan, Goo Goo Dolls, Garbage, a kazillion local bands and many, many more big names. The Ellinas family will remain involved in daily operations.
“The success of this legendary venue is due to the support from our partners, promoters, artists, management and agents who trusted us with hosting their events over the years,” says Athena Ellinas-Towers, General Manager, The Opera House. “Most importantly our staff, those that are here with us today and those that have been here throughout the past. We are honoured to have Live Nation Canada continue to bring the best in music, culture, and fan experiences to our historic venue for years to come.”
“We’re honoured to add The Opera House to our venue portfolio in Canada,” says Wayne Zronik, President, Business Operations, Live Nation Canada. “This venue has played an important role in shaping Toronto’s vibrant arts and culture scene and we’re eager to showcase the best of The Opera House and build on the legacy that the Ellinas family have built.”
The Opera House is the latest addition to the company’s growing venue footprint in Canada and the expansion of its global venue portfolio, Venue Nation.
