Brampton, ON. (March 12, 2021) – A major Amazon fulfillment centre in Brampton has been ordered by Peel Public Health to stop all shift operations and and have workers self-isolate for 14 days as part of an ongoing investigation into COVID-19 cases at the facility.

Peel Public Health has issued a Section 22 order, under the Ontario Health Protection and Promotion Act, to Amazon Canada to require all individuals working at 8050 Heritage Road (north of Steeles) in Brampton to self-isolate for two weeks effective 12:01 a.m. March 13, 2021.

In accordance with the order, all employees will be required to self-isolate through March 27th, 2021 unless they have tested positive in the last 90 days and completed their isolation period as directed by public health.

The current public health investigation has determined that high-risk exposure to COVID-19 for everyone working at Amazon Heritage cannot be ruled out.

Earlier this week, Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown said the City had to shut a couple of bus routes that serviced the Amazon Heritage facility. Nine bus operators tested positive for coronavirus infection in the past month.

The Brampton transit bus affected by the shutdown are:

  • 511 Züm Steeles and 11 Steeles: last stop serviced will be Steeles Avenue and Chinguacousy Road
  • 51 Hereford: last stop serviced will be Steeles Avenue and Financial Drive

Over the past few weeks, the rate of COVID-19 infection across Peel has been decreasing while the rate inside this facility has been increasing significantly.

Peel Public Health has been working closely with Amazon Canada to get this outbreak under control. This order will allow Amazon Canada further time to consider additional operational changes recommended by Peel Public Health that may help prevent outbreaks in future.

There is no word on how the shutdown will affect order fulfillment but there are five other major fulfillment centres around the GTA including a second Brampton location on Winston Churchill Boulevard.
