MISSISSAUGA, ON, Feb. 7, 2022 — The Ontario government has just announced that is adding 128 new long-term care beds and building a new long-term care home, VMSA-Mississauga, at Creditview and Eglinton in Mississauga that will offer culturally appropriate services to the Coptic Christian community. The provincial announcement says this is part of the government’s $6.4 billion commitment to build more than 30,000 net new beds by 2028 and 28,000 upgraded long-term care beds across the province.

At today’s press conference Paul Calandra, Minister of Long-Term Care, said: “Our government has a plan to fix long-term care and a key part of that plan is building modern, safe, and comfortable homes for our seniors,” “When the renovations at this home are complete, it will be a place for 128 local seniors to call home, near their family and friends in Mississauga.”

The new long-term care home in Mississauga will have a total of 128 long-term care beds and is proposed to be part of a campus of care which helps integrate the long-term care home into the broader health care system to ensure residents have access to the care they need. Construction is expected to start by Fall 2025.

“I want to thank Minister Calandra, Premier Ford and the Ontario government for these important and timely investments in Mississauga and our senior community. Mississauga has a growing senior population, and it’s only by building safe and comfortable homes that we can ensure that all Mississaugans are able to age with dignity. “

Mayor, Mississauga

The Ontario government says it “has a plan to fix long-term care and to ensure Ontario’s seniors get the quality of care and quality of life they need and deserve both now and in the future. The plan is built on three pillars: staffing and care; accountability, enforcement, and transparency; and building modern, safe, comfortable homes for seniors.”
