Raptors announce Vince Carter’s #15 will be retired, his jerseys are displayed across Toronto
TORONTO, Sept. 27, 2024 – In a very clever tribute to the announcement of the retirement of Raptors legend Vince Carter’s #15, his larger than life jerseys can be found hanging across Toronto today.
If you were in the city today, chances are you may have seen at least one at popular tourist locations like the Princess Gates, CN Tower, Ripley’s Aquarium and the ROM.
The Raptors took to ‘X’ and Instagram to share numerous jersey displays from all over Toronto. They even created a video tribute to Vince Carter to announce the retirement of his #15 jersey, the first Raptors jersey number to be hung in the rafters at Scotiabank Arena.
The official jersey retiring is set to take place at halftime of the Raptors’ Nov. 2 game against the Sacramento Kings.
Check out their ‘X’ feed to discover the numerous iconic Toronto landmarks where you will find Vince Carter jersey displays.
The Raptors also took to Instagram to capture Vinsanity’s reaction to seeing his jersey hanging across the city.
The jersey retirement coincides with the Raptors 30th anniversary season, and the re-opening of some snazzy refurbished Raptors and Vince Carter tribute basketball courts at Dixon Park, today (Sept. 27, 2024). The timing was perfect as Carter was in Toronto for the MLSE Foundation ribbon cutting.
At the grand re-opening, Raptors’ president, Masai Ujiri called it only “fitting” that Carter is having his jersey retired as part of it all.
“The Vince Carter effect is real,” said Ujiri.
Vince Carter was noticeably overwhelmed by it all, saying, “This is what I wanted more than anything because I had six crazy years here!” said a choked up Carter.
Tickets are already selling fast for the official #15 jersey retirement game slated for November 2, 2024 between the Raptors and Sacramento Kings at Scotiabank Arena. You had better snap them up fast if you want to be part of the celebration of Raptors legend Vince Carter!
