The National Ballet of Canada returns to Harbourfront Centre this August

TORONTO, July 25, 2023The National Ballet of Canada returns to Harbourfront Centre this August 17–19 with Sharing the Stage, a lineup of free live dance performances on the waterfront.

The collaboration, which brings guest companies together on the stage with the National Ballet’s acclaimed dancers, will present new and existing repertoires and showcase the works of local contemporary artists in a diverse range of styles and choreography.

Audiences can also participate in Show + Tell, an intimate opportunity to hear directly from the choreographers on their work and creative process and Dance With Us, free, drop-in dance classes from ballet to flamenco taught by local artists.

Performances, classes and Show + Tell are free and general admission. New this year, patrons can reserve a general admission seat online as of August 1, 11am on a first come, first served basis. Rush tickets will also be available for every performance on the day of the show. Booked general admission seats are reserved until 7:15pm only and will be released to the rush line promptly at that time.

Guest companies include Compañía Carmen RomeroLua Shayenne Dance Company and Rock Bottom Movement. Based in the Toronto dance community and representing a wide range of styles, the guest companies will share the stage with dancers from The National Ballet of Canada.

All performances are free. Seating is general admission.

New This Year: 

You will be able to reserve a general admission seat online as of August 1 at 11:00 am. Please Note:

  • Seating is limited and available on a first come, first served basis from Tuesday, August 1.
  • You must create an account in order to book your spot.
  • You will be issued a general admission ticket by email.
  • Your general admission seat will be reserved until 7:15 pm on the day of the performance ONLY.
  • Your reservation includes Show + Tell, an onstage artist panel discussion, which begins at 7:15 pm before every show.
  • A limited number of seats will be held for Rush seating on the day of the performance.
  • The Rush line will be open as of 6:30 pm on the day of the performance.
  • All reserved seats not claimed by 7:15 pm will be promptly released to the Rush line.

Outdoor Performances at Harbourfront Centre by The National Ballet of Canada With Guest Companies

The National Ballet will present three outdoor performances on the Concert Stage, August 17 – 19. Hope Muir, Joan and Jerry Lozinski Artistic Director, and Robert Binet, Curator and Producer, CreativAction and Special Initiatives, have curated a programme that features the National Ballet and three guest companies. The programme features the dynamic Ever New by Binet, a pas de deux from the sublime Concerto by Kenneth MacMillan, an excerpt from Rena Butler’s sensual Alleged Dances, a new CreativAction Micro-Commission from Indigenous choreographer Cameron Fraser-Monroe for National Ballet dancers as well as new works from guest companies Compañía Carmen RomeroLua Shayenne Dance Company and Rock Bottom Movement. The programme will feature live music.
