Union Station Toronto events guide

TORONTO, May 5, 2022 – Anyone who has waltzed through Union Station since all the renovations have been completed will know there are a lot more things to distract (in a good way) from where you may be headed. Whether it be the new upscale food court, bars and restaurants, or Danish pastries, gourmet coffee or men’s grooming studio, there are many things to catch the eye, as well as the ear, nose and mouth.

In fact, there are more than 100 individual shops and food vendors at Union Station. On top of all that, there is always something going on at Union through the changing seasons, and this spring is no different. From art exhibits, to dance parties and a gigantic Stanley Cup selfie installation, Union Station will put a spring in your step while you head to work, the Leafs game or out on the town.

Here is a comprehensive guide to all of the exciting happenings at Union in the coming months.

House of Bâby

Sep 22 2021 – Sep 30 2022

What Time

All Day

Where

Great Hall

House of Bâby is a 35’ lenticular image. As the viewer moves, eighteen people come into focus from the blurred crowd. They represent eighteen of the Black and Indigenous people who were enslaved by the Bâby family in Toronto, Windsor and Detroit. Their unpaid labour produced great wealth for the family. This artwork imagines the group in our contemporary moment, no longer constrained by the past as property nor languishing in the obscurity of the archive. The artists, Camal Pirbhai and Camille Turner brought this group to life by representing them in this country’s busiest hub. Union Station’s majestic architecture symbolizes stability and civic pride but it is the people who are responsible for its strength.
