Toronto-bound Air Canada plane forced to make emergency landing
Air Canada plane forced to make emergency landing – Flight AC837 bound for Toronto’s Pearson airport, was forced to make an emergency landing at Madrid’s international airport on Monday, due to an engine issue and reported tire rupture.
“The engine issue happened shortly after take-off,” according to Air Canada. “A tire also reportedly ruptured on take-off, one of 10 on this model of aircraft.“
The Boeing 767 carrying 128 passengers circled Adolfo Suarez-Barajas airport to lighten the fuel load for landing.
The plane which took off at about 3 p.m. local time, had been circling Madrid for more than two and a half hours according to the radar on Flight-tracking website Flightradar24.
Earlier on Monday Madrid’s Adolfo Suarez-Barajas had been shut down for more than an hour after reported drone sightings, diverting 26 flights to other airports.
“The aircraft, a Boeing 767-300, is designed to operate on one engine and our pilots are fully trained for this eventuality. Nonetheless, an emergency was declared in order to obtain landing priority,” according to a spokesperson from Air Canada.
