January 19, 2020– Environment and Climate Change Canada reports that Toronto received a record new daily total of 17.2 cm of snow for January 18, and temperatures will plummet from near minus 7 degrees celsius to minus 15 in the evening with a windchill of minus 23.

Because the temperatures will only get colder throughout the day, Torontonians are advised to get shovelling sooner rather than later today. It is also advised to dress in layers with wool or wicking material clothing and to keep as covered as possible to avoid frostbite.

The city has done a decent job getting out to clear major arteries and sidewalks but the snow ploughing continues throughout the day Sunday, and the City of Toronto asks for residents to be patient.

The GTA saw as many as 250 motor vehicle accidents as a result of slippery roads and low visibility according to Ontario Provincial Police.

The City has been diligently clearing all major routes and asks for patience as they clear secondary roads and sidewalks.
