Will VanVleet and Ibaka stay in Toronto?

Will VanVleet and Ibaka stay in Toronto— TORONTO, ON., Nov. 20, 2020 — The NBA’s free agency frenzy kicks off tonight at 6:00pm/ET and all eyes will be on the Toronto Raptors who are looking to re-sign two key pieces of their 2019 championship team.

Fans are on edge because there’s no guarantee that Fred VanVleet or Serge Ibaka will stay with the Raps after several successful seasons that saw the team go from “pretty good” to champions and now perennial contenders for the NBA title. These are two elite players looking for big pay days.

Both players haven’t let anything slip on social media but if either of them leaves, it will mean the end of an era in Raptors’ history.

Other unrestricted free agents on the team include Marc Gasol and Rondae Hollis-Jefferson.

Who’s Next?

There are plenty of rumours surrounding who the Raptors might pursue to fill out their roster if they end up losing Ibaka or VanVleet. The biggest name on that list is Toronto-born star Tristan Thompson who just finished up a five-year contract with the Cleveland Cavaliers. And even if the Raptors are playing this upcoming season in Tampa, rather than Toronto, it would still be great to have a Canadian-born player on Canada’s team.
