The hustle and bustle of the city is getting to be too much. You need a break. Even a few days away from the office and the responsibilities piling up at home would do you some good. Why not pack up your suitcase, get in your car and drive to a wonderful winter escape called Drake Devonshire?

Explore Prince Edward County!

Drake Devonshire is a short road trip away from Toronto, nestled in Wellington in the middle of Prince Edward County. If you want to explore PEC, sign up for a tour to see local highlights like breweries, national parks and farms.

You don’t have to stray too far from the Devonshire to have a great time outdoors. Rent a pair of snowshoes and take a walk on the powdery trails. Grab a pair of skates and glide around the outdoor skating rink. Take a stroll through the outdoor “Growing Here” art exhibit filled with installations from creators like Gordon Monahan and Jennifer Lefort.

Cosy Up Inside!

If it’s too chilly for you, there’s plenty to do inside. Go to the games room to dig up one of the classic board games from the leather shipping trunk or challenge a partner to an intense round of ping pong. Explore the interior art exhibit featuring work by Alison Postma. Browse through artisanal chocolate bars, graphic tees, scented candles and other goodies at the Drake General Store, right in the lobby of Drake Devonshire.

You might not even feel like leaving your amazing room! The award-winning Owner’s Suite comes with a king-sized bed, fireplace and massive A-frame windows looking right onto Lake Ontario. You can throw on a warm sweater, get some room service and watch the snow fall. Or, you can order spa services straight to your suite. Get a Swedish massage complete with a customized blend of essential oils and unwind.

Stay for Dinner!

If you consider yourself a foodie, you’ll be happy to find out that one of the best restaurants in Wellington Ontario is inside of your hotel. Executive chef Alexandra Feswick designs menus full of unique dishes made with the freshest ingredients. Many ingredients are sourced directly from local farmers and vintners, guaranteeing that you get a taste of PEC with every bite.

The critic Chris Nuttall-Smith of The Globe and Mail gave the restaurant high praise in a review after getting options from two seasonal menus. He remarked that he couldn’t make food recommendations since the menus often change to focus on fresh flavours and ingredients. All the more reason to try as much as possible before you head back home!

Winter Escape – Try Drake Motor Inn!

If there are no rooms open at the Devonshire, you don’t have to cancel your plans! You can always book a room at the retro-style Drake Motor Inn that’s just down the road.

The motor inn is a fun play on the classic roadside motel, adding the Drake’s classic touch. You’ll notice artwork in every room and exciting amenities like polaroid cameras and an expertly curated vending machine.

Your getaway doesn’t have to be a long journey. You can hop in the car for a short afternoon drive to the peaceful Prince Edward Country. A winter wonderland is only a couple of hours away from home.
