Huge Rolling Stones Exhibition coming to Kitchener

The Rolling Stones|UNZIPPED exhibition at THEMUSEUM in Kitchener will be only stop in Canada

KITCHENER, ON., August 5, 2020 — The Rolling Stones | UNZIPPED, a unique immersive experience providing comprehensive insight into the band’s nearly sixty-year history, will be presented at THEMUSEUM in Kitchener in the fall of 2021.

The announcement was made yesterday in a statement by David Marskell, CEO of THEMUSEUM located in downtown Kitchener.

“I am thrilled that we have confirmed not only the Canadian Premiere, but the only Canadian stop on the world tour,” said David Marskell, CEO of THEMUSEUM. “While we have brought world-class exhibitions from Titanic to Warhol here to Kitchener, this will be the largest show to date.”

Similar to the David Bowie Is… exhibition held at the AGO in the fall of 2013, The Rolling Stones | UNZIPPED will feature over 10,000 sq.ft. of impressive one-of-a-kind artefacts. The show boasts more than 300 original objects from the Stones’ personal collection. Along with instruments and stage designs, this exhibition includes rare audio fragments, video footage, personal diaries, iconic costumes, posters, and album covers. Some of the items are on loan from the Stones’ private collection.

UNZIPPED offers a comprehensive and engaging multimedia experience that will surely draw thousands of fans to southwestern Ontario from November 2, 2021 to January 30, 2022.

Following stops in Europe, the United States, and Asia, UNZIPPED celebrates The Stones’ artistic collaborations in music, art and design, fashion and film. The show features original works on display from an array of artists as diverse as Andy Warhol, Alexander McQueen, Prada, Dior, and Martin Scorsese, to name a few.

In the world’s biggest exhibition on The Rolling Stones, highlights include a replica of their recording studio, an immersive realistic reconstruction of their Chelsea flat ‘Edith Grove’, and culminates in a mind-blowing backstage and 3D concert experience.

THEMUSEUM, located at 10 King Street West is one of the KW area’s cultural hubs – a new kind of museum that is more about ideas and experiences rather than permanent collections. The team at THEMUSEUM are dedicated to presenting fresh, relevant cultural content from around the globe in unique and interactive ways that intersect art, science, & technology.

The Rolling Stones exhibition is expected to attract not only visitors from southwestern Ontario but also from the Greater Toronto Golden Horseshoe.

“The City of Kitchener is thrilled to be hosting the Rolling Stones exhibition UNZIPPED in downtown Kitchener in the fall of 2021,” said Mayor Vrbanovic. “An international cultural experience of this caliber will be a key tourist driver in the post COVID-19 period, which will not only further enhance THEMUSEUM’s track record of delivering world class exhibitions but will also serve to reinvigorate tourism in Southwestern Ontario and Canada.”

The Rolling Stones | UNZIPPED will be available to experience from November 2, 2021 to January 30, 2022 at THEMUSEUM located at 10 King Street West, Kitchener.

Advance ticket sales will begin in November 2020 with an exclusive ticket pre-sale for THEMUSEUM Members.
