Blue Jays expected to announce signing of superstar slugger Vladimir Guerrero Jr. to 14-year $500 million contract extension
TORONTO, April 6, 2025 – Although it has yet to be officially announced by the Toronto Blue Jays, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and the Blue Jays have agreed to a 14-year, $500 million extension, a source told MLB.com on Sunday night. When this becomes official the Jays’ most anticipated signing announcement in franchise history will also be the its biggest.
According to MLB.com, the deal is pending a physical. And According to Sportsnet’s Shi Davidi, due to the logistics of completing a required physical prior while on the road, the Blue Jays and Guerrero Jr. won’t be able to make it official on Monday.
Vladdy’s massive 14-season $500 million deal, the largest in Blue Jays history, and second largest in MLB history to Juan Soto’s $765 million contract inked with the New York Mets this off-season, has been looming large over the Jays organization for months. While the previous largest Blue Jays contract was George Springer’s six-year, $150 million deal in 2021.
Well, it seems Jays fans can finally breathe easier, with Vladdy’s impending free agency no longer a concern. Now, with a most important puzzle piece in place for the long term, it is a good sign that ownership is very much committed to getting the club to the promised land. They may have missed out on Shohei Ohtani sweepstakes but they certainly splashed the cash for arguably one of their very own., as the Montreal-born, Guerrero Jr. has been playing in the Blue Jays organization, since the age of 16 and bery near and dear to Toronto fans’ hearts.
Although the Blue Jays organization has not commented, newly acquired – but injured – pitcher, Max Scherzer said the reported signing is especially great for the Jays organization “hey, we know who’s playing first now for the next 14 years. That solves so many different pieces,” said Scherzer.
While starting pitcher Kevin Gausman said, “He’s exactly what you would want to be in a franchise guy … It’s a huge step for the organization and the front office to say like, hey, this is our guy … I’m glad they did that.”

Montreal-born, Guerrero Jr. has been playing in the Blue Jays organization, since the age of 16.
Over the seven seasons that , Guerrero Jr. has been with the Jays has posted 160 home runs, 511 RBI and 478 runs scored. And most fans know he also has played in four All-Star teams. And who can forget his epic Home Run Derby performance in 2023? Vladdy also won a Gold Glove in 2021.
